UNISON Roadshows in KA Leisure

UNISON is the fastest growing trade union in the UK, UNISON represents workers providing public services; locally UNISON North Ayrshire represents workers employed by KA Leisure.

Over the past few weeks, UNISON Officers and Stewards undertook to visit Vikingar!, Garnock Pool, Auchenharvie, Galt House and the Magnum.

UNISON activists met with members to discuss their issues and concerns including –

  • Future funding pressures
  • Refurbishment of facilities
  • Investment in equipment
  • Adequate staffing levels
  • NACs review of Leisure facilities
  • Health and Safety

The Branch hopes to encourage any workers not in a trade union to join up and existing members to become more active.

During the visits members took part in a free prize draw as they updated their membership details

Congratulations to the lucky winners

  • 1st prize – a digital camera won by Mr W Mcmail
  • 2nd prize – ipod shuffle won by Ms E Sharkey
  • 3rd prize – CD player won by Ms L Futter

We believe members are best represented by a strong well organised Trade Union – UNISON provides a high standard of training opportunities for Shop Stewards and Health and Safety reps.

The local branch needs more active elected shop stewards and health and safety representatives as over the next few years we believe there will be financial pressures on KA Leisure and North Ayrshire Council’s intention to review leisure services in the area will have significant implications for our members.

UNISON has requested a meeting with Frank Keddilty Chief Executive KA Leisure seeking a meeting to discuss the implications of the review for the workforce.

We will call members’ meetings and will update this page as the review progresses

KA Leisure Shop Stewards – Edward Wright and David Reid both based at Magnum Centre Irvine
